Members of staff have been encouraged to buy a t-shirt, costing just £2 and wear this when they step away from their desks for a few minutes to dance to the catchy tunes of the cha cha slide.
Rother FM is also supporting the good cause by playing the music at 2.15pm when schools and colleges all over Rotherham will also be strutting their stuff to raise money for this highly worthy local cause.
Julie Sanders, Youth Engagement Officer for Rotherfed, Rotherham’s umbrella organisation for Tenants and Residents Associations, has been working with some of Rotherham’s most vulnerable young people. She has been busy finding way new ways to promote engagement and cohesion, whilst addressing the important issues of wellbeing and safety.
Through this work she has created strong links with Thybergh School and Sports College. Over the last few months they have developed the ‘Big Bop’ project and created the t-shirts.
The t-shirts have been designed by vulnerable people to support other vulnerable young people who are being helped by the safe@last charity.
The safe@last Rotherham based charity aims to protect young people under the age of 16 who for a multitude of reasons feel the need to run away from home. The charity provides intervention and breathing space and most importantly safety for young people at a crucial time. They work tirelessly with parents, carers, schools and colleges to provide education and support.
The ‘Big Bop’ project also has the support of Rotherham Lady Mayor, Cllr Rose McNeely, who is urging all of Rotherham borough to show support for the youngsters who really are ‘doing it for themselves’.
Any wearers of the fab and funky t-shirt will also have automatic entry to the arena at the Rotherham Show in September, when the t-shirt acts as a free ticket to dance again alongside Rotherham’s Lady Mayor and the Blues Brothers.
