Stepping Out Makes a Difference to Estates
11/07/08
.
2010 Rotherham Ltd is inviting tenants and residents to take part in Neighbourhood Walkabouts to help tackle the issues important to them in their own neighbourhood.

Walkabouts give tenants and residents the chance to meet 2010 Rotherham Neighbourhood Officers, local Councillors, Rotherham Wardens and representatives from Streetpride and the Police. Tenants and residents can discuss areas of concern, such as litter, poor street lighting, graffiti and anti-social behaviour – whatever they feel is important.

Tenant Alan Batty was one of four tenants to take part in a recent walkabout in the Rockingham area.

“I enjoyed it,” he said. “It was very informative and there was lots of discussion about what could be done, especially about anti-social behaviour, the shops and the state of the footpaths. I learnt that 2010 Rotherham, South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Borough Council are hoping to set up a Tenants and Residents Association for the Rockingham area and felt the walkabout was a good way for everybody to air their views. I would definitely go on another walkabout.”

Neighbourhood Officers and other partners make note of any issues that arise and liaise with the appropriate departments to resolve tenants and residents’ problems. Feedback is given to attendees to show action has been taken and that their views do count.

Wath Councillor Alan Gosling regularly attends walkabout and says he would like to see more done to encourage tenants and residents to take part.

“If tenants and residents came along they would see what can be done. On one walkabout I went on, two off-road motorcycles were confiscated in one evening,” he said.

Details of the upcoming walkabouts are given in the Events section. Evening walkabouts are also included in the forthcoming months.
