The exercise class, organised by Newhill Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) with support from 2010 Rotherham, was held at Campsall Field Close community centre, Wath-upon-Dearne. Members of the TARA decided to introduce the classes following interest from local residents.
Armchair Aerobics sessions encourage limited mobility and exercise from a sitting position, ensuring that anyone can participate. Most of the exercises are chair based, working on the joints, mobility, posture and stretch.

The exercise session was followed by a stew and dumpling supper. A raffle was also held, with lucky local residents Rita and Ernest Fletcher scooping first prize of a hamper, donated by 2010 Rotherham.
Margaret Alderson, secretary of Newhill TARA, said: “The first Armchair Aerobics event was a great success, everyone really enjoyed themselves and further sessions are now set to take place in the near future. The sessions not only help to improve the health and well-being of residents, they are also an opportunity for members of the community to get together.”
2010 Rotherham customers wishing to find out about activities in their area should contact their local neighbourhood office.
