How you can pay your rent

Tenants are required to pay the rent and other charges regularly and promptly. Rents are due weekly in advance on 48 weeks of the year. There are 4 rent free weeks. These have been set for Spring Bank Holiday, Christmas and New Year weeks, and the last week in March.

The Council now offers more ways than ever to pay your rent. You can pay your rent by;

Direct Debit – forms available from your local neighbourhood office

Standing Order – forms available from your local neighbourhood office

• Automated telephone payment on 01709 336810

• Debit or Credit card – either online, by telephone or at your local neighbourhood office

• By post – by cheque or postal order payable to Rotherham Borough Council

• Office payments at Civic Building, Rotherham 8.30am to 5.30pm Mon to Fri, or any Area Office 9.00am to 4.30am Mon to Fri

• Post Office using Transcash, although you may have to pay a small charge

Reductions to Rent payments

On the 6th March 2009 the Minister for Housing announced that extra money would be available to Councils to enable them to reduce rent increases which were being set in April 2009. Although this change was optional, Rotherham Council has decided it would be in the best interests of tenants to reduce rents from an average increase of 6.9% to 3.6%, for 2009/10.
