Buying Your Home
The Right to Buy is available to secure tenants of the Council. You will be able to buy your home if you meet the conditions listed below:
- You must be a secure tenant in a Council house or flat.
- If your tenancy commenced before 18th January 2005 you must have been a tenant of a public sector landlord for at least two years.
OR
If your tenancy commenced after 18th January 2005 you must have been tenant of a public sector landlord for at least five years.
You will not usually be able to buy your home if:
- You live in sheltered accommodation.
- Your home is only temporary accommodation.
- The Council does not own the property we have rented to you.
- Your home is provided with your job (that is you live in tied accommodation).
- There is a court order saying you have to leave the property.
