Damp & Mould
Damp and mould patches on walls, furniture or clothing is likely to be caused by condensation. The only permanent solution is to reduce condensation, although you can buy special paint to help prevent mould in most DIY shops.
Handy tips to help reduce condensation are:
- Open windows and doors to allow a change of air.
- Don’t block vents and chimneys.
- Don’t use paraffin or calor gas heaters as they produce a lot of moisture, and also breach your tenancy agreement.
- In very cold weather keep heating on at least a low setting.
- Avoid drying clothes on radiators.
- Avoid boiling pans and kettles for a long time.
- Close bathroom and kitchen doors when in use so that the moisture does not go into cold rooms.
- Wipe surfaces where moisture settles.
- If you can, leave your window slightly open or your ventilators open at night.
