Improving or Making Changes to Your Home
If you want to improve or make changes to your home then please discuss with your local Neighbourhood Team before starting the work. We will be pleased to give permission as long as what you want to do is reasonable.
Please write to your local Neighbourhood Office describing the changes that you would like to make. If you feel that it will help to explain what you would like to do, include a basic drawing of the change.
A few examples of the things you must get permission for are:
- Removal and replacement of doors or putting in arches
- Changing bathroom or kitchen fixtures
- Putting in a shower, central heating or gas fire
- Decorating the outside of your home
- Putting up a satellite dish
- Building a garage or shed
- Laying a drive or hard standing
It is important that you do not start work without talking to us first. If you do not get written permission before you start work, then you may have to return the property to how it was before, or 2010 will carry out the works and charge you for the cost.
You may be entitled to compensation if you do additional work which improves your home. We will pay you this compensation at the end of your tenancy (please note, this will be a proportion of the cost incurred by you at the time, we will not compensate you for the full amount you paid to improve your home).
